Located within the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, the Quirón Salud Sports Clinic continues to expand its services to guarantee the best medical care for the young players living at the high-performance centre and the amateurs who regularly visit Manacor to take part in its various sports programs.

Professional sport demands extreme levels of fitness and the smallest details in the preparation of an athlete can make all the difference. Therefore, bringing sports cryotherapy to the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar will be a very positive addition that makes significant contributions to the athletes achieving their goals.

The inclusion of the technology was made possible by Cryosense, who have developed the perfect cryotherapy machine for a sports professional. The Cryosense cold room for athletes, which is now operational in the Quirón Salud Sports Clinic, was specifically developed for sports usage, constituting crucial support for recovery from injuries and the goal of increasing physical performance.

The effects of using this machine are also mentally and emotionally beneficial because the application of extreme cold under controlled conditions stimulates rest and wellbeing, boosting the positive consequences of rest on an athlete’s motivation.

How do cryotherapy sessions work? It’s very simple! Cryotherapy is based on exposing the body to exceptionally low temperatures, which are achieved in the booths through the use of evaporating liquid nitrogen. Cryotherapy for athletes is conducted in booths that can reach temperatures between -110°C and -196°C for a short period of time (2 to 3 minutes) in a controlled environment. This process leads to a reduction in temperature of the skin of less than 5°C. The change does not affect the core body temperature, which remains constant.

Domingo Rosselló, head of the Fitness and Health departments at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar is delighted with this innovation because the Cryosense booth will be a key factor in accelerating recovery for some players, particularly after arduous days of physical exertion and intense training sessions.
