The annual program of the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar has an excellent team of coaches with extensive professional and training experience. The leadership of each of the different areas corresponds to the Head Coaches, responsible for coordinating, directing and training the young players who come to train in Manacor. Who are each of the Head Coaches?

 

Marc Gorriz

After a long career on the ATP circuit (on which he reached ATP position 88 in singles and 73 in doubles), Marc debuted as a trainer in 1999 with Roberto Carretero. For over 15 years he worked with important names such as Sergi Bruguera, Albert Portas, Alberto Martín and Robin Haase. At the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar he performs an essential role, managing trainers, coordinating daily sessions on court and supervising the activity of the different groups of players.

 

Anabel Medina

Valencian tennis player and current captain of the Spanish Billie Jean King Cup team, Anabel Medina Garrigues, is responsible for women's tennis at the academy. During her long career as a tennis player, Anabel (former world number 16), won 11 WTA titles and reached another seven finals. In addition, she was world number 3 in doubles, a category in which she won 28 titles. Her achievements include two Roland Garros titles in doubles and the silver medal won with Vivi Ruano at the Beijing Olympics. After her retirement as a professional player, Anabel took on the challenge of coaching Jelena Ostapenko, Latvian player with whom she conquered Roland Garros in 2017 and with whom she reached seventh place in the world ranking. She later took on the challenge of being Spanish captain of the Billie Jean King Cup, a position she has held since 2017. During this time Anabel has placed Spain in third place in the world ranking thanks to the 12 victories achieved in her 16 qualifiers as captain. She has managed to qualify Spain to the last 4 finals of the Billie Jean King Cup.

 

Joan Bosch

After working at different clubs in Menorca and Mallorca, Joan Bosch began working at the l´Escola Balear de l´Esport technical training centre, where he met Toni Nadal and Rafa Nadal. After this stage, he worked for 7 years with former world number one Carlos Moya, with whom he achieved some of the most important results of his career, including more than a dozen ATP titles and the Davis Cup in 2004.. After the following period as director of the Sports Technical Training Programme of the Government of the Balearic Islands, he joined the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar as Head Coach, leading groups of different promising tennis players.

 

Gustavo Marcaccio

After his professional retirement, Marcaccio has acquired a great experience as a coach thanks to the successes achieved with Guido Pella, Paula Ormaechea, Maximo Gonzalez or Giovanni Lapenti. Although the greatest notoriety as a coach was acquired in the stage in which he worked with Juan Monaco, whom he helped to win 4 ATP titles and reach the Top 10 of the world ranking. In addition, Marcaccio has worked with the Argentine national team playing the role of

Deputy Captain of the Davis Cup team. In addition to coordinating different groups of players at the Academy, one of Gustavo Marcaccio's main roles in his early days at the Academy was to join the team in charge of Jaume Munar's sporting career, working hand in hand with Tomeu Salvà. He later worked with Martín Landaluce's team and is currently part of Rafa Nadal's team.

 

Pedro Clar

After his time as a player, in which he won 11 ITF titles and played the 4 Grand Slams, Pedro was Technical Director of the Balearic Islands Tennis Technification Center. After joining the Rafa Nadal Academy he was part of the technical team of Jaume Munar, who broke into the Top 100 and reached his best ranking (52nd in the world) thanks to the titles harvested in the Challenger circuit. In 2019 he joined the technical team of Casper Ruud, who in this stage has become number 2 in the world ranking after conquering 10 titles on the ATP circuit and reaching two finals of Roland Garros (2022 and 2023) and US Open (2022). He has also reached the semifinals of the ATP Finals and won the Laver Cup with the European team.

 

Tomeu Salvá

During his successful period as a Junior player, Tomeu was proclaimed European Cadet and Junior Champion as well as World Junior Team Champion and Junior Davis Cup Champion teaming up with Rafa Nadal and Marcel Granollers. In the professional circuit Tomeu reached the doubles final in the ATP tournament in Chennai as well as in the Conde de Godo. In his facet as a trainer, Tomeu has coached Cristian Garin (2017 and 2018) and Jaume Munar (2018 - 2022), with whom he conquered 8 ATP Challenger Tour titles, reached the final of the ATP tournament in Marbella and reached number 52 in the world. In that stage Jaume achieved 3 victories against Top-10 players and won matches in all 4 Grand Slams. As part of his work at the Rafa Nadal Academy, Tomeu was also part of the Casper Ruud 2019 staff and also of Rafa Nadal himself in 2018 and 2019.
