Jordanian player Abdullah Shellbayh graduated from the Rafa Nadal International School last June and has earned a scholarship to begin his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, combining his tennis career with his studies.

 

Despite having a slightly different year because of the pandemic, the University of Florida men's tennis team went on to win the National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship (NCAA), finishing the year with a 26-2 match record.

 

Abdullah joins the Gators with a brutal record behind him. Abdullah comes to Florida having finished the season ranked No. 27 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings and with a 22-5 singles record. This past year he was a Junior Wimbledon doubles finalist with partner Daniel Rincon, with whom, he raised the championship trophy at the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships tournament in 2020.

 

The experience in the ITF circuit and his time at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar has helped Abdullah to stand out in the first competitions with the university team. In Cambridge, 

 

Abdullah finished the Crimson Chowderfest tournament undefeated, winning all three of his singles matches and adding two doubles victories. This week, Tulsa is hosting the ITA All- American Championships, where Abdullah and his doubles partner Mattias Siimar have earned a spot in the main draw after winning three consecutive matches in the qualifying draw. This optimistic start will surely lead the Gators to win the NCAAs in 2022.
