Team Rafa<\/strong> for the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam<\/strong> has announced its final two members: David Ferrer and Carlos Moy\u00e0<\/strong>. The two former Spanish stars will join Rafa Nadal<\/strong> and Richard Gasquet<\/strong> to complete the squad led by the 22-time Grand Slam champion. They are set to face Team Murray<\/strong>\u2014featuring Andy Murray, Dominic Thiem, Marat Safin and Fabio Fognini<\/strong>\u2014in a doubles exhibition held on Saturday, October 3, at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor (Mallorca)<\/strong> to celebrate the Academy’s 10th anniversary. <\/p>\n\n

The addition of Ferrer and Moy\u00e0 reunites three icons of a generation that defined an era in Spanish tennis. Rafa Nadal, David Ferrer and Carlos Moy\u00e0 will once again share a team<\/strong>, recapturing the spirit of the Spanish Armada that led the nation to years of unprecedented success, most notably in the Davis Cup.<\/p>\n\n

Ferrer and Nadal shared countless moments on and off the court for nearly two decades. The Alicante native was a cornerstone of the Spanish team that captured the 2008, 2009 and 2011 Davis Cups<\/strong>, and he currently serves as the Spanish team captain. It was Ferrer who led the team during Rafa Nadal’s final professional appearance at the 2024 Finals in M\u00e1laga. <\/p>\n\n

Throughout his career, David Ferrer reached a career-high of world No. 3 and captured 27 titles<\/strong>, including the 2012 Paris Masters 1000<\/strong>. He was also a finalist at Roland Garros in 2013<\/strong> and the ATP Finals in 2007<\/strong>, establishing himself as one of the most consistent Spanish players of his generation. <\/p>\n\n

For his part, Carlos Moy\u00e0<\/strong> was the first Spanish player to reach world No. 1 in the ATP rankings<\/strong>, winning 20 titles<\/strong> and lifting the Roland Garros trophy in 1998<\/strong>. Furthermore, Moy\u00e0 and Nadal were part of the Spanish squad that achieved a historic milestone by winning the 2004 Davis Cup in Seville<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

The bond between Moy\u00e0 and Nadal has remained strong throughout their careers. After competing together for the Spanish Armada, the Mallorcan joined Rafa Nadal’s coaching staff at the end of 2016 ahead of the 2017 season<\/strong>, and he is also an integral part of the Rafa Nadal Academy sports project. <\/p>\n\n
