Both were seen from a very young age as two of the great talents of their generation, and their paths crossed long before they reached the professional tour. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"RETRO | Richard Gasquet facing Rafael Nadal at Les Petits As 1999 \ud83d\ude31\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YZxd1msy7cM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of those early meetings took place at the Les Petits As tournament, where Rafa Nadal and Richard Gasquet faced each other when they were both 12. That match was one of the first times their paths crossed on court, long before they went on to share the sport\u2019s biggest tournaments for more than two decades. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gasquet finished his career with 16 ATP titles, was crowned Davis Cup champion with France in 2017, and won an Olympic bronze medal in doubles at the London 2012 Olympic Games, among many other major achievements.
