Casper Ruud faces the defense of his title at the Mutua Madrid Open after completing an intense week of work at the Rafa Nadal Academy, where he also spent time with Rafael Nadal.<\/p>\n\n

Exactly one year ago, the Norwegian player lifted the most important trophy of his career at the Caja M\u00e1gica, confirming his ability to compete for the biggest titles on the ATP circuit. Now he returns to the Spanish capital with a new status: that of defending champion. <\/p>\n\n

“It’s a motivation for me to return to the tournament and try to play good tennis. The next two weeks are going to be very exciting,” Ruud explained upon his arrival in Madrid.<\/p>\n\n

Ruud, a player who has trained at the Academy since 2018, also confirmed that he arrives fully recovered after some physical problems suffered in Monte Carlo. “I’m happy to say that I’m 100% recovered. I was a bit worried at first, I thought Madrid would be difficult. But I’ve had good recovery days. I spent a week in Mallorca, training at Rafa’s academy and doing physical work off the court. I’m very happy to be here ready to compete again,” he said on the ‘Game, Set, Madrid’ program from the official Mutua Madrid Open media. <\/p>\n\n
