The Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar and waterdrop®, an emerging Austrian hydration company, have joined forces in their respective missions to encourage young athletes to drink more water – a habit that will help them live a healthier and more sustainable life.

One of the most noteworthy changes that comes with the agreement is the installation of hydration benches on the centre court of the Academy. These hydration benches come with integrated fountains to measure the exact amount of water consumed during tournaments and practice sessions so their efforts towards sustainability can be tracked and evaluated. Starting this spring, waterdrop® will also be providing their iconic reusable Steel Bottles to players attending the Summer Camp – these bottles will also be available at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar shops to further support the reduction of single-use plastic bottles on-site. The Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar currently hosts an annual ATP Challenger Tour event, as well as 10 other events on the ITF World Tour and the final stages of numerous Junior and Senior Tours. These new hydration benches will hence support these respective events in their path to being more sustainable.

Carlos Costa, Head of Sponsorship at Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, was happy with the announcement of the partnership. He commented: “I think it’s a positive thing that our sport is increasingly moving towards important goals such as sustainability and promoting a healthy lifestyle. This sponsorship with waterdrop® is very important for the Academy as it will help raise awareness on two angles – about the importance of better hydration as well as the necessity to be more eco-friendly.” Martin Murray, CEO of waterdrop®, echoed the same sentiments: “Our mission has always been to encourage people to drink more water sustainably, and we are honoured to have one of the best tennis academies of the world on our side to help make this vision come to life.”

The Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar’s agreement with waterdrop® also bolsters the company’s synergy with tennis that comes with being the Official Hydration Partner of the ATP Tour and presence at tournaments such as the Mallorca Championships, the Delray Beach Open, the Srpska Open (Banja Luka), the Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes (Lyon), the Hamburg European Open, the Boss Open (Stuttgart), the Citi Open (Washington), the Winston-Salem Open and the Moselle Open (Metz) in 2023.
