Vittoria Oliveri and Carola Pessina are enjoying a week of tennis at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar. Do you remember these two young Italians?

At the peak of the pandemic, Italy was one of the countries worst affected by COVID, which meant young people were unable to do sport or go outdoors. But creativity prevailed in Finale Ligure, in the province of Savona, where Carola Pessina and Vittoria Oliveri, (11 and 13 years of age, respectively) found a way to keep playing tennis between the rooftops of their respective houses. One day they decided to record a video of themselves playing and it went viral, having such an impact that Roger Federer even decided to pay them a surprise visit in Italy and play tennis with them on the rooftops they practised on during lockdown. The Swiss also gave them an amazing gift: one week of training at the Rafa Nadal Academy.

Restrictions meant that they were unable to enjoy their gift in 2020, but this week Carola and Vittoria were able to travel to Spain, where they enjoyed an incredible experience in Manacor and were even able to meet Rafa himself.

“The training sessions are really tiring, but both the coaches and the people at the Academy are very nice”, and “I’d love to stay here and study and play tennis for my whole life” are just a couple of the comments from Carola and Vittoria, who are living one of their dreams thanks to two of the best tennis players in history: Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal.
