Having turned 17 in January this year, Martín Landaluce has just produced one of the greatest feats of his fledgling career by climbing to the pinnacle of the International Tennis Federation’s junior world rankings. The Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar player has topped the list thanks to the 6 titles he claimed in a 2022 during which he picked up no fewer than 58 wins.

His greatest success was winning the Junior US Open, becoming the third Spaniard in history to do so. His victories on the grass of Roehampton and reaching the semi-finals at Junior Wimbledon were also highlights of his season.

Although Martín made his ATP Tour debut last October in Gijon, his first professional victory did not come until a month ago at the ITF World Tennis Tour event held at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar. The Madrid native beat French player Pablo Trochu 6-1, 6-1 in less than an hour to earn his first ATP points. At the event, where he reached the semi-finals, he eventually bowed out to his training partner Daniel Rincón in a thrilling tie between the last two Junior US Open champions.

As a student of Óscar Burrieza and Gustavo Marcaccio, Martín has had the chance to train with Rafa Nadal himself on several occasions at the Academy, where he is currently preparing for his upcoming events on clay.

The achievement is a huge success story for the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, which has managed to produce two junior world number ones in just 6 months (Paraguayan player Daniel Vallejo occupied the position last summer). In addition, Dani Rincón and Alex Eala (both pupils in Manacor and Junior US Open champions) reached number two in the ITF Junior rankings, beating the mark set by Jaume Munar years earlier when he reached number 3 in the world.
