Marat Safin joins Team Murray for the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam

A new Grand Slam winner joins the Rafa Nadal Academy Slam. Marat Safin will also be part of the doubles exhibition to be held next Saturday, October 3, at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor (Mallorca) to mark the Academy’s tenth anniversary.

The Russian will be part of Team Murray, captained by Andy Murray, which will face Team Rafa, led by Rafa Nadal, in a very special day that will bring together some of the biggest names in world tennis.

Safin was one of the leading figures of his generation. He reached world number 1 in the ATP rankings, won 15 singles titles, and claimed two Grand Slam tournaments: the 2000 US Open and the 2005 Australian Open.

Additionally, he was a key member of the Russian team that won the Davis Cup in 2002 and 2006, playing a decisive role in both titles.

With the addition of Safin, Team Murray continues to take shape, which will also feature Dominic Thiem alongside captain Andy Murray. Facing them will be Team Rafa, led by Rafa Nadal and already including Richard Gasquet.

The Rafa Nadal Academy Slam will be one of the highlights of the Academy’s tenth anniversary celebrations. The event will take place on October 3 in Manacor, as part of a special day designed to celebrate ten years of a project that, since 2016, has turned the Rafa Nadal Academy into a meeting point for players, fans, and families from all over the world.
