The Rafa Nadal Academy strengthens its medical department with the arrival of Rafael Maymó through its partnership with Quirónsalud

The Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar takes a key step forward in its commitment to excellence in health and sports performance with the addition of Rafael Maymó, Rafa Nadal’s personal physiotherapist for more than 18 years, to its team of advisors.

The Rafa Nadal Academy will now count on Maymó, who joins the advisory team leading the physiotherapy area thanks to the Academy’s strategic alliance with Quirónsalud, its official health partner. This partnership allows the Academy to provide its players with world-class medical and physiotherapy services, inspired by the standards of the elite of world tennis.

Maymó has been by Rafa Nadal’s side throughout his professional career, taking care of every physical detail and becoming a key factor in the success of the 22-time Grand Slam champion. His incorporation as an advisor strengthens a highly prestigious team led by Dr. Ángel Ruiz-Cotorro, Head of the Medical Services of the Spanish Tennis Federation and Clínica Tenis Teknon, with Domingo Rosselló as Director of the Physical Preparation and Health Department. Maymó’s experience in managing the preparation and recovery of a champion of Nadal’s stature will now become a distinctive value at the service of the young players training at the Rafa Nadal Academy.

Through its alliance with Quirónsalud, the Rafa Nadal Academy consolidates a medical team of excellence that integrates physiotherapy, sports medicine, and the latest innovations and technologies applied to performance.

Rafa Nadal himself highlighted Maymó’s importance in his career in the Movistar documentary Los 8 de Rafa:
“With Rafa (Maymó) he is the person I’ve spent the most hours with. He traveled everywhere with me, he was always by my side. We went through tough times together, because he was there at every single moment. Also during the moments when mentally I was down. Maybe because of all this, we’ve created a bond that makes it difficult for me to imagine my tennis without him at my side.”

With this new step forward, the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar reaffirms its position as an international benchmark where sport, health, and education go hand in hand to prepare the players of the future.

New Tennis Director

Coinciding with the start of the new academic and tennis season, and on the eve of celebrating its ninth anniversary, the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar has also unveiled its new structure in the tennis area, based on continuity and on the DNA that has characterized it since its opening in 2016.

Rafa Nadal welcomed Gustavo Marcaccio as the new Tennis Director, responsible both for the Academy in Manacor and for the centers that form part of its international expansion.

In the new organizational chart of the Rafa Nadal Academy, Tomeu Salvá will work directly alongside Gustavo as Co-Technical Director. Both will be supported by the advisory role of Toni Nadal (Academy Ambassador), Marc Gorriz (who remains on the team, now as Technical Consultant), and Joel Figueras, Head of Training.
