ARN Publishing House

The names of Rafa Nadal and the Laver Cup will always be linked. The 22-time Grand Slam champion took part three times (2017, 2019 and 2022), leaving moments that transcend the sport. In this team competition – where Europe and the Rest of the World face each other – Rafa not only shone for his triumphs, but also for his character, leadership and human bonds that moved the world.

2017 – The debut and the fans’ dream: Nadal-Federer
The first edition, held in Prague, was an event loaded with symbolism. One of the most iconic moments in tennis history took place in the Czech capital: Nadal and Federer playing a doubles match together for the first time. Rivalry turned alliance. The Spaniard and the Swiss defeated Jack Sock and Sam Querrey in a match that combined emotion with gestures rarely seen between the two great champions.
It was more than a victory, it was an image of a new era of tennis, where respect and admiration among competitors became an example for the entire sporting world
2019 – The soul of the team in Geneva
At the 2019 Laver Cup in Geneva, Nadal once again represented Team Europe, this time combining his minutes on court with a true team leader role. Although he was unable to play due to a wrist injury in the Sunday matches, his intensity from the bench was key.
He cheered, shouted, advised his teammates, especially Tsitsipas and Zverev, celebrating every point as if it were his own. Europe prevailed and much of the credit went to his influence off the court.
2022 – London and the most emotional farewell to tennis
The 2022 edition, held in London, will also remain forever in the history of sport. Not for a title, but for a human moment: the retirement of Roger Federer.
Nadal was chosen by the Swiss himself to be his partner in his last professional match. Together, they played a thrilling doubles match against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.
The result took a back seat. The emotion was so real that, at the end of the match, Nadal and Federer shared tears, laughter, and one of the most viral and moving images in modern sport: two historic rivals holding hands, crying, saying goodbye to an era. It was a poetic ending
