When Casper Ruud arrived at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar in 2018, he was ranked No. 143 in the official ATP rankings, but his status has steadily improved thanks to a meteoric rise that has now seen him rise to No. 2 in the world. “I’m very proud of being No. 2. In a way, it’s a good thing because I can still chase the top spot,” said Casper after playing the US Open final against Carlos Alcaraz. “I’m proud of the match and the two weeks. I gave it my all. I left everything on the court. I played phenomenal tennis over the two weeks, probably my best tennis on this surface.”

Casper was on the verge of winning his first Grand Slam title in New York just six months after having starred in an emotional final at Roland Garros, in which he lost to Rafa Nadal himself.

Aside from his brilliant performance at the Grand Slams in 2022 (only he and Rafa have reached two finals), his leap up the world rankings has been forged in the context of a season in which he reached the final of the Miami Masters 1000 and in which he added another three titles to his list of achievements, lifting trophies in Buenos Aires, Geneva and Gstaad.

Throughout his career, the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar player has now accumulated nine titles. Furthermore, thanks to his 44 wins, the Norwegian coached by Pedro Clar and his father Christian Ruud is practically qualified to play again in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin (November 13-20), a tournament for which Rafa Nadal has already mathematically qualified.

Casper is one of the stars of the documentary “Rafa Nadal Academy,” which can be seen on both Movistar+ and Amazon.
