Andre Agassi said goodbye to Wimbledon in 2006 , fifteen years after winning his first Grand Slam on the London grass.
The American legend had announced that this would be his last edition and after defeating Serbian Boris Pashanski and Italian Andreas Seppi, he met second seed Rafa Nadal in the third round.
In two hours and 14 minutes, the Spaniard secured a 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-4 victory before the American bid farewell to Centre Court forever. “You’re young, 18 or 19, you have that desire, and all you worry about is the next point. I see that in Nadal, too. He has a true sense of professionalism and goes out there trying to win every point,” Agassi said after the match against a young Nadal, who would then reach his first Wimbledon final.
